Ahli went six points clear on top of the Egyptian Premier League table upon snatching a 1-0 win over closest rivals Petrojet on Tuesday, thanks to an Ahmed Hassan last-gasp strike. Veteran midfielder Hassan scored deep into injury time to give the visitors all three points. Ahli were clearly affected by the absence of influential duo Mohamed Abou-Treika and Mohamed Barakat due to respective injuries. Now the Red Devils are at the top of the league table with 23 points, while Petrojet lie second on 17. The game witnessed a cagey start, with both sides showing a great deal of caution. After several minutes, the Petroleum side started to carve out scoring chances, trying to take an early lead. Eric Bekoe was the first to threaten Ahli when he darted to penetrate the area, but veteran defender Wael Gomaa eventually tackled him and cleared the danger. On 12 minutes, Hassan could have given the Cairo giants the lead but his header went high over. Shortly after the Egypt captian tried his luck from long range, his shot went inches past the post though. Mohamed Fadl had a goal disallowed two minutes past the half-hour mark. The former Ismaili marksman headed home, but the keeper parried the ball away after it crossed the line to trick the referee. Gomaa squandered a clear-cut opportunity seconds later from point-blank range, but his poor finish was no threat. Moatz Eno was taken off after sustaining an injury. Mostafa Shebeita was sent in instead. In the second half, Emad Meteb and Fadl made way for Ahmed Shokri and Francis Doe respectively. Ahi were in control in term of possession, but the hosts' rearguard managed to keep them at bay most of the time. Doe failed to break the deadlock in injury time when his tame header was easily cleared. Second later, Hassan notched a last-gasp winner when his low diagonal shot from close range went past the keeper and into the net.
