Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's son Alaa launched a furious verbal attack on the Algerian fans following the unfortunate incidents which followed Wednesday's World Cup qualifier between both countries. Violence broke out in Sudan capital Khartoum after Algeria defeated Egypt 1-0 in a World Cup playoff to qualify for next year's South Africa finals. The jubilant Algeria fans attacked opposing supporters with knives and blades to prompt a flurry of furious condemnations in Egypt. "Those Algerians were mercenaries who attended the game to throw stones and bottles," Alaa Mubarak, who was present in the stands to support Egypt, told Dream TV on Thursday. "They did not care about the result or any footballing matters, they just traveled to Sudan to target Egyptian supporters." Alaa was a member of a huge delegation which flew to Sudan to support Egypt in the crucial tie. The delegation included journalists, actors, actresses, parliament members and government officials. Alaa's brother Gamal Mubarak, a prominent leader in the ruling National Democratic Party, was also present in the stands. "Algeria hold a grudge against us, everybody knows why. Our country is the envy of Algeria because we are superior to them," Alaa, who insisted he was not representing any official stances, added. "Brother countries are the one who respect us. We always play in the Arabian Gulf, for example, without any problems." Egypt has earlier recalled its ambassador to Algeria as the matter is turning into a diplomatic dispute between both countries.
