EFA file complaint against Algeria
Published in FilGoal on 19 - 11 - 2009

The Egyptian FA filed a complaint to FIFA against Algeria and threatened to suspend the national team's football activities if the world governing body did not take an action following Wednesday's riots in Sudan.
Violence broke out in Sudan capital Khartoum after Algeria defeated Egypt 1-0 in a World Cup playoff to qualify for next year's South Africa finals.
The jubilant Algeria fans attacked opposing supporters with knives and blades to prompt a flurry of furious condemnations in Egypt.
"It was a tragedy. The Algerian fans terrorized our supporters and threatened to take their lives with numerous weapons," the EFA said in a statement on their official website on Thursday.
"The international and football community should condemn such disastrous incidents and FIFA should take an action.
"If FIFA do not intervene, we are ready to suspend the national team's football activities for two years at least.
"But we fully trust FIFA, who always care for the lives of football fans everywhere."
FIFA said on Thursday they had opened disciplinary proceedings against Egypt after an attack on Algeria's bus during the Pharaohs' 2-0 victory on Saturday which forced a playoff four days later.
Algeria said three of their players were consequently injured but the EFA insisted their opponents made up that story.
A heated rivalry in football is turning into a diplomatic dispute between both countries, with Egypt recalling its ambassador to Algeria earlier in the day.
