Croatia FA president Vlatko Markovic has implied that his nation's stars are being targeted by English Premier League players. Markovic was frustrated to see Tottenham star Luka Modric break his leg against Birmingham City at the weekend, keeping him out of the crucial qualifier with England on September 9th. Arsenal and Croatia striker Eduardo also suffered a horrific leg break, ironically against Birmingham, in February 2008, only for him to miss the reverse fixture with the Three Lions last year. Eduardo and Modric were injured during challenges with Martin Taylor and Lee Bowyer respectively. "First Eduardo, now Luka Modric. This is horrible. I can only ask myself if it was really an accident," Markovic said. "I'm close to thinking it was done to us deliberately before the England match. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what happened to Luka. He is irreplaceable." Most Important Markovic highlighted the importance of Modric to the Croatian team, who are second in Group 6, seven points adrift of leaders England. "Modric is the most important player of our national team. With him, everything starts and ends," he added. "Luka is for us as important as Andres Iniesta for Barcelona or Michael Ballack used to be for Bayern Munich. Without him we will be much weaker. "There's nothing else we can do but keep our heads up and go on."
