Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola heaped praise on Real Madrid skipper Raul, highlighting the latter's contribution to Spanish football and the game in general. Raul scored his 306th career league for Real against Deportivo on the weekend and the 31-year-old is one goal short of equalling Alfredo Di Stefano's record for Los Merengues. “I'd like to congratulate Raul for his remarkable record with Real. I hope that he can resume such performances for years to come,” Guardiola was quoted by Marca. “He is always setting a brilliant example for professionals and youngsters alike.” Guardiola stated his happiness to see a player in the calibre of Raul's pay tribute to Barca's form this season. “It's an honour for us when Raul says so, and that's what makes him a great player. “There's no doubt that his retirement whenever he decides it to be, will be a turning point for Real.” Barcelona have been setting Spain and Europe alight, with some breathtaking performances that enabled them to reach La Liga summit 12 points adrift of second-placed Real.
