An outnumbered Inter Milan claimed a 2-0 win over Catania on Wednesday to move six points clear at the top of Serie A, whereas David Beckham's superb goal wasn't enough for AC Milan, who were held to a 1-1 home draw with Genoa. Defending champions Inter, who had midfielder Sulley Muntari dismissed on 32 minutes for a challenge on Giacomo Tedesco, scored in either side of the interval through Dejan Stankovic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Nerazzurri took a stranglehold on the game right after kick-off, with Stankovic heading home Julio Cruz's cross on five minutes. However, the home side redeemed themselves after Muntari's dismissal, but had a goal disallowed, seemingly for Takayuki Morimoto's dangerous play. Eventually, Ibrahimovic ensured the visitors' lead after latching on to Stankovic's deft pass before chipping over the awkwardly-positioned keeper Albano Bizarri. Slipped-Away Victory In another coinciding match, Milan wasted an easy victory over Genoa, who came from behind and salvaged a point at Giuseppe Meazza.
Beckham Carlo Ancelotti's men squandered too many clear-cut opportunities in the first half. Veteran midfielder Beckham, who's playing for the Rossoneri on loan, tried his luck in the early seconds of the game, but his tame shot was competently saved. Jinxed midfielder Andrea Pirlo could have converted two free-kicks, but his efforts were twice blocked by the crossbar. Genoa keeper Rubinho was caught napping when Beckham surprised him from the left with a pinpoint free-kick that landed into the net from a narrow angle. The home side's victory slipped away when Argentine forward Diego Milito scored a last-gasp leveler. Elsewhere, Udinese have sealed their first win since October after defeating Juventus 2-1. Fabio Quagliarella and Antonio Di Natale netted on 20 and 74 minutes respectively for the home side, before Vincenzo Laquinta pulled one back for the Old Lady.
