Middlesbrough midfielder Mohamed Shawky could have a chance to feature on a more regular basis next season after Fabio Rochemback joined Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese midfielder agreed a three-year deal with Sporting after Boro opted not to extend his deal at the Riverside. "It is good for both sides," Rochemback was quoted as saying by the club's official website. "So many things made me accept the offer. I know the club, the people working for the club, and there was the Champions League, which is very important for any footballer." Rochemback's departure may pave the way for Shawky to hold down a regular place in the heart of Boro's midfield. The 26-year-old joined Middlesbrough from Egyptian champions Ahli last summer. Shawky, whose progress with the team has been hindered by niggling injuries, made just three appearances in the Premiership this season. The former Masri man is unlikely to participate in Egypt's four World Cup qualifiers next month due to a back injury.
