Juventus claimed a deserved 2-1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro to blow the Serie A title race wide open. A controversial strike by Mauro Camoranesi four minutes after restart gave Juventus the lead before David Trezeguet added the second three minutes past the hour mark. Maniche came off the bench to narrow the gap eight minutes from time but Juventus managed to hold onto their lead to snatch a morale-boosting victory. Inter main challengers Roma will be delighted by the result as it reduced the gap between them and the Nerazzurri to four points at the top of the table. Juventus are third on 58 points as they earned plaudits for their surprising results after sealing promotion to the first division. Camoranesi stunned the home crowd in the 49th minute when he controlled a long ball inside the area before slotting home at the near post. Television replays showed that the talented winger was in an offside position. League's join top scorer Trezeguet doubled the lead in the 63rd minute after making the most of Nicolas Burdisso's dreadful error. The Argentine defender tried to clear Alessandro Del Piero's chip from his own area, but he only managed to nod the ball into the path of Trezeguet, who side-footed past Julio Cesar. The Bianconeri could have further extended their advantage on several occasions but Trezeguet and Del Piero lacked the finishing touch. Their best chance came nine minutes from time when a series exchange of passes between Trezeguet and Del Piero released the latter, whose effort was blocked by Cesar. Substitute Maniche gave Inter a lifeline just one minute later when he converted Maicon's low cross into the net from close range. Juventus could have paid for missed chances when the Portuguese midfielder wasted a clear-cut opportunity to level the score just before the final whistle. He saw his effort from inside the area bounce off the woodwork as Inter failed to secure at a late equalizer.
