Simone Perrotta broke the deadlock after only two minutes and Captain Francesco Totti secured the full points with a 50th minute penalty. The result leaves the Romans six points behind leaders Inter Milan on 64 pts. Elsewhere AC Milan got over their Champions League exit and defeated Empoli 3-1. Antonio Busce's strike in the 24th minute cancelled out Alexandre Pato early finish. Massimo Ambrosini and Kaka, 86 and 89, hit late in the game to put fifth-placed Milan just a point behind fourth-placed Fiorentina.
