Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld believes Luca Toni's strike against Anderlecht paved the way for his side to hammer the Belgian champions 5-0 in the UEFA Cup. The German tactician, who will take charge of Switzerland in the summer, believes Anderlecht's resistance softened when Italian striker Toni scored Bayern's second goal. "Anderlecht were very aggressive at the start and went into each challenge with intensity," Hitzfeld said after the match. "Up until the second goal from Luca Toni it was a close game. It looked easier at the end than it was at the beginning." The Bavarian giants have virtually booked their place in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, so Hitzfeld plans to rest some of his key players for the return leg. "Now we can save a bit of energy next Wednesday before we face Cottbus in the league the following Saturday." "Also we will now be able to play a few other players, like Breno, who hasn't played up till now," he added.
