AC Milan and Italy icon Paolo Maldini has completed a millennium of competitive games after making an appearance in Saturday's goalless draw with Parma. The 39-year-old veteran came on as a second half substitute at Ennio Tardini to make his 1000th landmark throughout his 23-year playing career for both Italy and Milan. "I would like to dedicate this achievement to my family, in particular my mother who has followed me all these years and has always stayed close," he told reporters. "Tonight I've played my 1,000th match, it is a number that remains impressive, it is only a shame that we haven't won the three points but there are always highs and lows." Maldini made his Milan debut in 1985 against Udinese, after which he became one of the pillars of the Rossoneri, appearing in eight Champions League finals. The versatile defender is Italy's most capped player with 126 games in the colors of the Azzurri, which he captained for more than 60 games.
