Substitute Elrio van Heerden fired an unstoppable bullet with three minutes remaining to help South Africa claim a 1-1 draw with Angola in the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday. Van Heerden, who replaced the ineffective Steven Piennar, continued the run of stunning shots which marked this year's CAN in Ghana to deny Manucho's first-half strike. Senegal and Tunisia also drew in the other Group D game earlier in the day. The first-half was a very dull affair as both sides had rare goalscoring opportunities. South Africa had the first chance in the 12th minute when Teko Modise's long-range drive was blocked by Angola keeper. Ahli striker Flavio Amado orchestrated Angola's attacking attempts through his neat passes and impressive skills. Angola striker Manucho, who recently joined Manchester United from Petro Atletico, broke the deadlock in the 29th minute. Flavio raced down the left flank and provided a pinpoint cross to Manucho, who superbly dived to head into the back of the net. The 28-year-old Flavio caught the attentions again four minutes past the hour mark. His brilliant back-heel found Ze Kalanga, whose powerful shot went just wide. South Africa finally began to find their rhythm and pushed forward searching for the equalizer. Van Heerden leveled the score three minutes from time after Angola keeper Lama failed to deal with his left-footed splendid shot.
