Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' was withdrawn from Middlesbrough's reserves game with Wigan on Tuesday as coach Gareth Southgate decided he is not ready yet to participate. The Egyptian striker has been out since October with a pubic injury and it was decided earlier this week that he could play 45 minutes with the reserves. According to the Evening Gazette, Southgate felt that Mido wasn't ready to get back into competition games. The game ended in a goalless draw. Mido may be on the bench on Saturday when Middlesbrough face Liverpool in the Premiership. Egypt manager Hassan Shehata said he was waiting to see if Mido could be ready for the African Cup of Nations that kicks-off on January 20th. But it seems difficult for the prolific striker to be part of the Egyptian squad that defends the continental title in Ghana.
