Premiership strugglers Middlesbrough produced a huge upset by beating leaders Arsenal 2-1 at Riverside Stadium on Sunday. Goals from Stewart Downing and Sanli Tuncay handed the Gunners their first Premiership defeat this season, as Tomas Rosicky's goal was too late. Despite the defeat, Arsenal remain top with 37 points, but they are just one point ahead of champions Manchester United. On the other hand, Boro, who registered their first win in ten games, popped out of the danger zone, jumping four places in a row to lie 14th on 14 points. Boro missed injured Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido', and there were no signs for fellow countryman Mohamed Shawky as well. The home side broke the dead lock early on, as Downing converted a fourth minute penalty after Kolo Toure's unnecessary challenge on former teammate Jeremie Aliadiere. Arsenal seemed to be struggling without their midfield sensation Cesc Fabregas, who has a hamstring problem since last month, the Londoners were also without Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Robin Van Persie. Arsene Wenger's men, who netted 33 goals in 15 games before the game, looked clueless upfront, which forced the Frenchman to bring on Nicklas Bendtner instead of Eduardo at half-time. However, an organized Boro side looked more dangerous on the counter, as Tuncay and George Boateng came close after the break. In the 73rd minute though, the lively Tuncay followed in a loose ball from Manuel Almunia's initial save to hit the roof of the net for the crucial second. Arsenal grabbed a very late consolation when Rosicky's low shot found the back of the net in the fifth minute of injury time.
