Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster was unhappy with his midfielders' performance blaming them for losing control of the game. "I do not return home upset because we have picked up a draw, which is a positive result given how the game progressed,” said Schuster during the press conference after the game. Real were leading 2-1 but then the midfielders did a lot of wrong passing allowing Lazio to level the score 2-2 against the run of play. "We looked nervous and that only served to increase the confidence of our rivals. We invited them by making mistakes, and lacked maturity,” continued the German. "We should have kept the ball and looked calmly for the second goal. We still have a lot to learn about being calm under pressure, and picking the right moments to kill the game off." Although, Schuster was happy with the point and said that his players need to improve and that this will come in the next few weeks especially that his team is still young.
