Egyptian veteran striker Hossam Hassan notched a brace for the African XI in the 3-3 draw with a Rest of the World team during the celebration of Nelson Mandela's 89th birthday. The former South African president, who spent his life fighting apartheid, was honored in a thrilling match that witnessed the participation of many retired stars. Holland's former two-time World Player of the Year Ruud Gullit, Liberia's great and 1994 Player of the Year George Weah, Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o and Spain's Emilio Butragueno were some of the starts who took part in the match. Former Chile striker Ivan Zamorano put the World XI ahead as early as the sixth minute before Ghana great Abedi Pele leveled the score three minutes later. Ittihad's newly-signed Hassan, who turns 41 next month, restored the Africans' lead in the 39th minute but Gullit equalized again one minute before the interval. Hassan, Egypt's most-capped player and all-time top scorer, was on the score sheet again four minutes after re-start. Spain's Julen Guerrero made it 3-3 in the 73rd minute as the match ended in an entertaining draw.
