Hamburg's new signing Mohamed Zidan expressed his jubilance with the new move in his first interview with the club's official website on Monday. The Egyptian striker arrived at the AOL Arena from relegated side Mainz, after having a superb second-half of last season, hitting 13 goals in 15 games. Zidan has been targeted by a host of clubs, but the ex-Werder Bremen man opted to select Hamburg as he revealed his joy with the transfer. "I am very happy to join Hamburg, I feel like a little kid who has been let loose in a sweet shop," he told HSV.de. "I have always admired HSV ever since I moved to the Bundesliga, HSV were always a very interesting club for me. In my eyes, HSV are one of the biggest clubs in Germany." Hamburg finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season, but the Egypt international has bigger plans for his new club.
Will his relationship with Stevens be the same as it was with Klopp? "I hope that we can be in-or around the top three sides. It is great that we have qualified for the Intertoto Cup, because I think that we can reach the UEFA Cup with this team," he added. Zidan has been persistently mentioning the influence of Mainz manager Jurgen Klopp on his performance, and now he is satisfied with his first meeting with HSV coach Huub Stevens. "We spoke together and my impression of him is a positive one. I believe he is hard but fair. It is crucial for me to feel that the coach is right behind me, and I got that feeling while talking to Huub Stevens." The 25-year-old, who had an operation last Thursday in Munich, missed Egypt's disappointing 1-1 draw at Mauritania on Sunday. "It was routine surgery and the surgeons assured me that it could not have gone better. I was experiencing pain with a scar from a previous groin operation so the surgery was necessary. "I will begin light training over the next few days and the surgery will have no affect on the start of the new season."
