Anderlecht's Egyptian midfielder Ahmed Hassan has been named second best player in Belgium this season in the 'Pro Footballer of the Year' award ceremony at the Casino of Spa on Sunday. Hassan's teammate Mohamed Tchite grabbed the award after an impressive season with the Belgian champions, scoring 19 league goals in the process and finishing runner-up in the top scorers chart. Germinal Beerschot striker Francois Sterchele came third after he finished as top scorer with 20 goals. Hassan had also finished as runner-up for the 'Ebony Boot' awarded to the best African Footballer in Belgium, that also went to Congolese striker Tchite.
Tchite and Hassan The former Besiktas playmaker had a magnificent first season at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, scoring 15 goals in all competitions, and producing a steady form to guide Anderlecht to the Belgian league and Super Cup trophies. The 32-year-old has recently confirmed his stay with the Belgian champions after continuous efforts from the Brussels club to keep him. Anderlecht players dominated the awards as Czech custodian Daniel Zitka was voted Goalkeeper of the Year and Argentine midfielder Lucas Biglia grabbed the Young Player of the Year award. Hassan also came second as well in the '12th man trophy' for the fans player the year, which was won by teammate goalkeeper Zitka, and Genk midfielder Tom Soetaers came third.
