Former Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour has been sentenced to three years in jail on Wednesday for verbally abusing Egyptian Chief Justice Sayed Nofal. An Egyptian court announced the verdict to put an end to a long saga surrounding the controversial lawyer, whose case has been postponed more than once. However, Mansour, who did not attend the last hearing, has the right to appeal the ruling. The problem started when Mansour and a number of his aides bolted into Nofal's office at the Supreme Administrative Court of the State's Council headquarters last month.
Despite being a lawyer, Mansour couldn't defend himself Nofal accused Mansour of aggravated assault against a public servant and defamation of the Egyptian judicial system. Mansour and his men were contained by security but he collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital under tight security. Mansour's attack was provoked by the court ruling that upheld the former Minster of Youth, Mamdouh Al-Beltagi, to remove him from his post as Zamalek president. The former judge had separate spells in charge of Zamalek but couldn't stay for long due to his fiery temper which cost him his position.
