A second-half brace by Emad Meteb led African champions Ahli to a 2-0 away victory over Suez Cement in the Egyptian League on Friday. The Egypt international striker's set-pieces were enough to help Ahli continue their march towards third consecutive league triumph. The Cairo giants are on top of the table with 50 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Ismaili who face Petrojet later on Friday. Ahli defender Wael Gomaa wasted an early chance to open the score line in the seventh minute when he headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
Nine minutes later, Flavio's superb back-heel released Tarek Al-Saied whose close-range shot was denied by the post. Meteb's free-kick three minutes before the interval was brilliantly saved by Suez keeper Wessam Ismail. The league's top scorer broke the deadlock on the hour mark after curling a dazzling free-kick that sailed over the wall and went into the top corner of the net. Ahli were awarded a penalty kick in the 73rd minute after Flavio was brought down by Ahmed Bakri inside the area. Meteb stepped-up and successfully converted the ball past the wrong-footed Ismail.
