Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez admitted that frequent mistakes and poor defense cost them the local derby against Everton. "We made a lot of mistakes, too many mistakes and our defending was really poor," Benitez said in a statement on Liverpool's official web site after the team's 3-0 defeat against Everton. The Reds lost the 204th Merseyside derby after a brace from Andy Johnson and a strike from Tim Cahill gave Everton an early season lead. Benitez was openly disappointed by concession of goals.
Andy Johnson "Last season we had a lot of clean sheets so we need to analyze why we are conceding goals so easily," he said. The former Valencia manager said that the team had many chances to score, but in the end fell short. "I thought we were too nice at times and put ourselves under pressure. Someone said to me we had 21 shots at goal but that counts for nothing if you don't take your chances," he added. "It is a very disappointing day for us for sure." Liverpool play in the Champions League next facing off against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, then against Chelsea in the Premiership next Sunday.
