Inter Milan new-signing Patrick Vieira admitted that he decided to leave Juventus once they were demoted to Serie B. Vieira, who joined Juventus last summer from Arsenal, signed a four-year contract with Inter on Wednesday and was presented in a press conference at the club headquarters. Asked by reporters if he considered playing with relegated Juve, the France captain said: "No, because I wanted to play in Serie A. I wanted to continue to play at the highest level and win a lot more." Vieira was targeted also by Manchester United and Real Madrid, who landed his former team mates Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson, but he said that Inter's sincere interest, not their clean hands, made his decision easier. "I made this decision because when I spoke with Marco Branca I understood that the club really wanted me to sign. This was the most important thing for me," he said. The 30-year-old holding midfielder is no stranger in the Italian city as he had a short spell with AC Milan in the 90s before moving to the London club. Although he unsuccessful at San Siro before, Vieira now stresses that he has no bad memories. "It was a difficult experience for me at Milan but it was useful for the future of my career," he said. Inter coach and fans hope that Vieira, who won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Cup two years later with France, can bring his winning spirits to the team. He played a pivotal role in France's campaign towards the 2006 World Cup final match against Italy. The game witnessed Italy's crowning ceremony but was marred by Zinedine Zidane's assault on Inter defender Marco Materazzi. Vieira was the first French player to speak to Italian media after this game and he preferred to talk about the bright aspect. "I am sorry that this (Zidane head-butting Materazzi) is the only thing people are talking about," he said. "We should be talking about Italy's victory, and this is certainly more important than that incident."
