Akram Salman has quit his post as Iraq manager after receiving death threats but his resignation hasn't been accepted yet, Iraqi Football Association (IFA) chairman Hussein Saied said on Tuesday. "The police have the phone numbers of the people who threatened Salman and they are investigating. We will know what to do this week, whether he (Salman) will stay or leave," Saied told the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website. "We have not yet accepted his resignation but if Salman insists we have three to four Iraqi candidates who can take over from him." The 60-year-old coach has been named Iraq coach in 2005 succeeding Adnan Hamad. According to Saied, Salman is still in charge of Iraq's preparations for their 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers. "He is in Arbil, north of Iraq, with his family and the team is also there," Saied said. "They have been training there for the August 17th AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Palestine after the friendly against Syria (July 27)." Iraq's next game in the tournament's qualifiers is scheduled for August 17th when they take on Palestine in Jordan.
