West Bromwich have rejected Manchester United's second bid for goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak as well as a bid from Portsmouth on Curtis Davies. The Baggies have said in order to part with Kuszczak, Manchester United must offer the team cash plus two unnamed players, one on loan and one on a permanent deal. "United know the position. They have made us an offer but it is not what we want," Baggies boss Bryan Robson said in the Daily Mail. "So that is still not a deal at this moment in time. It all depends on United now." While Sir Alex Ferguson's second bid may have come up short, he seemed confident last week that he would secure the transfer of the 24-year-old Pole, claiming to be "in the process of tying up a deal" according to BBC Sport. Even with the bid rejection, Kuszczak's eventual departure seems likely as West Bromwich signed Switzerland's World Cup goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuehler last week.
United boss Ferguson needs a new keeper Ferguson may be desperate for a new keeper after sending reserve keepers Tim Howard and Ben Foster out on loan to Everton and Watford respectively. Still, Kuszczak is not the only player Robson has denied a bid for, West Bromwich turned down a club record bid of £8.5 million from Portsmouth for talented 21-year-old defender Davies. "We have received a substantial offer from Portsmouth but that has been rejected," Robson said in regards to Davies in the Daily Mail. Albion may be attempting to hold onto Davies as the club struggles to make an instant return to the top-flight. Regardless of Robson's reasons, the manager has remained firm. "Curtis is a highly-valued member of our squad and the board's stance reflects that." Pompey's offer may knock Arsenal out of the bidding war, since the Gunners look unwilling to offer more than £6.5 million.
