Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam "Mido" will return to Roma after his 18-month loan spell ended, the Premiership side announced on their official website on Friday. Although Tottenham's Dutch coach Martin Jol wanted to secure Mido's services, Spurs' talks with Roma regarding a permanent deal for the former Ajax and Marseille man have broken down. The Londoners move to sign Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen earlier, cast doubts over Mido's future at the White Hart Lane. The Egyptian international's campaign with Tottenham was hampered by injuries in the Premiership's final stages. The 23-year-old striker scored 11 goals this season with Tottenham, five behind the club's top-scorer Robbie Keane. Jol said in the beginning of the season that Mido should score at least 15 goals to guarantee a permanent deal with the Spurs. Tottenham have also decided to release Moroccan defender Noureddine Naybet, along with Serbia and Montenegro defender Goran Bunjevcevic.
