Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' has rejoined Tottenham Hotspur on permanent basis from AS Roma, the Premiership club announced on Tuesday. Mido has spent 18 month on-loan at White Hart Lane before returning to Roma during the close season after Spurs boss Martin Jol opted to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen. However, Tottenham's two defeats in three Premiership games have caused Jol to reconsider signing the Egypt international. "We've been tracking Mido since his loan ended and we were always keen to bring him back," Jol told Tottenham's website on Tuesday. "Roma took some persuading and I'm delighted to have him in the squad." "He knows I like him as a player, his strength in the air and his mentality. It's an excellent addition to the squad and our striking options are now complete." Mido, who previously played for Gent, Ajax, Celta Vigo and Marseille, said he was glad to return to White Hart Lane.
Mido rejoins Egyptian teammate Hossam Ghaly at Tottenham "I'm very happy to be back," he said. "It was and it always will be a great honor for me to play for Tottenham. "I always knew in my heart I would be coming back. It is a fantastic move for me, I have some good friends here and it will be good to be back with the lads." The 23-year-old netted 11 goals in 27 games for Spurs before sustaining a series of injuries that ended his season a month early. "I can't wait to pull on a Tottenham shirt, to play at the Lane and score some goals," Mido added. Mido was recalled to the Egyptian national team for the first time since his sideline spat with coach Hassan Shehata in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations in February, for which he served a six-month suspension. African champions Egypt will face Burundi in the opening game of their 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on Saturday.
