Egyptian champions Ahli continued their quest for a second successive league title with a 2-0 win over Al-Gaish on Tuesday. Striker Emad Meteb headed Ahli in front as early as the 7th minute and Mohamed Abou-Treika sealed the win from a 62nd minute set-piece. The win put Ahli on the league summit with 47 points, two ahead of second-placed Zamalek, with two games in hand. Defender Emad Al-Nahhas squandered a chance to put Ahli ahead from the penalty spot after Al-Gaish goalkeeper Gharib Hafez upended Abou-Treika in the 3rd minute. Four minutes later Meteb rose to a pinpoint Mohamed Abdul-Wahab cross to bury home a header past the wrong-footed Hafez. Ahli players dominated the match in terms of possession and wasted several chances to extend their lead. Abou-Treika doubled the lead for Ahli when he curled a splendid free-kick home from the edge of the area in the 62nd minute. Al-Gaish had a sole chance to make an impression but failed to do so when Ghanaian Ernest Papa Arko hit the bar after going one-on-one with Ahli keeper Essam Al-Hadari in the 79th minute.
