Ahli continued their bid towards winning the second successive domestic double after coming from behind to beat 10-man Al-Gaish 3-1 at home and book their place in the Egyptian Cup semi-finals. Sameh Adrous stunned the home crowd in the 26th minute but was cancelled out by Mohamed Abou-Treika's superb strike shortly before the break. Abou-Treika put the Cairo giants ahead early in the second-half and Angolan striker Flavio Amado ensured the win one minute past the hour mark through an opportunist goal. Al-Gaish played the full second-period with just 10 men following Hossam Abdul-Aal's dismissal as he received a second booking for protesting the referee's decision. Ahli defender Mohamed Sedik was knocked unconscious just before the interval after a mid-air collision with Al-Gaish keeper Wael Khalifa. The former Zamalek defender swallowed his tongue and had to be rushed to the hospital but thankfully, he regained consciousness shortly after. Ahli had the first chance after five minutes when Mohamed Shawki laid off the ball to Abou-Treika on the edge of the area but the Egypt international's low shot went just wide of the post. Al-Gaish then had the upper hand in terms of threats as a sluggish display by the hosts couldn't help them mount pressure on the military club. In the 11th minute, Abdul-Aal's curling free-kick was palmed away by Ahli stand-in keeper Amir Abdul-Hamid.
Sedik recovered Unmarked Adrous stunned the home crowd in the 26th minute when he connected with Gomaa Mashoor's corner to head home past the hesitated Abdul-Hamid. Ahli pushed forward searching for the equalizer but found it difficult to break through Al-Gaish resilient defense. Hassan Mostafa's shot from inside the area was tipped by Khalifa before Al-Gaish wasted a golden opportunity to double the lead five minutes later. A defensive blunder by Shadi Mohamed helped Adrous go through on goal but he fired poorly wide. Abou-Treika grabbed the equalizer two minutes before the break with a brilliant overhead kick that struck the post and went into the back of the net following a defensive mix-up by Al-Gaish players. Al-Gaish hopes of snatching a stunning win suffered a setback after Abdul-Aal received his marching orders for an improper protest against the referee's decision to award the goal, claiming that Abou-Treika handled the ball before scoring. The impressive Abou-Treika, last season's league top scorer, put Ahli ahead seven minutes after restart following good work from Mohamed Barakat down the left flank. After he was released by Emad Meteb's through pass, Barakat reached the by-line and chipped the ball to Abou-Treika, whose simple right-footed shot went into the empty net as Khalifa was busy trying to block Barakat's effort. Flavio secured the win in the 61st minute after his low cross from the left-flank evaded the keeper and went into the bottom corner.
