Emerson opportunist sends Juventus to quarter-finals
Published in FilGoal on 07 - 03 - 2006

A last-gasp strike by Emerson gave Juventus a hard-fought 2-1 victory over German side Werder Bremen to send them through to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
David Trezeguet's goal five minutes past the hour mark cancelled out Johan Micoud's opener in the first half before Brazilian midfielder Emerson sealed a late victory three minutes from time.
Juventus are through to the quarter final on the away goal rule as they were beaten by Bremen 3-2 in the first-leg.
French playmaker Micoud put Bremen ahead in the 13th minute when he received Christian Schulz's pass inside the area before chipping the ball past advancing keeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Wiese hides his face after the dreadful error
Schulz almost leveled the score in the 26th minute as his misdirected diving header from the edge of the area went past his team's keeper Tim Wiese but it went wide.
Wiese denied Juventus' equalizer just one minute before the break when he brilliantly blocked two successive shots by Pavel Nedved and Emerson.
Trezeguet put Juventus level in the 65th minute as he sent a right-footed shot into the far corner of the net after being set-up by Nedved.
Emerson capitalized on Wiese's horrible mistake in the 87th minute when he slipped the ball from his hands only for the Brazilian international to slot home.
