Egypt midfielder Ahmed Hassan was named the 25th African Cup of Nations (ACN) player of the tournament following the Pharaoh's fifth continental victory. Hassan, who gave a top-notch performance throughout Egypt's African campaign, captained his side a number of times in the tournament and scored four goals to finish second in the top-scorers' list, behind Cameroonian star Samuel Eto'o. Egypt's Essam Al-Hadari grabbed the best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award after playing an instrumental role in the Pharaoh's campaign to African glory. Al-Hadari conceded only three goals throughout the tournament and was the key to Egypt's victory over Ivory Coast after saving spot-kicks from Didier Drogba and Bakary Kone in the 4-2 shoot-out that crowned the Egyptians as African champions. Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi was chosen as the tournament's best young talent.
