Real Madrid will play against either Barcelona or 2004 title holders Real Zaragoza in the Spain King Cup semi-finals, while Espanyol were pitted against the winners of Valencia's tie against Deportivo La Coruna in the draw that took place on Friday. Zaragoza are more likely to advance to the semi-finals after ending the Catalans' 18-match winning streak with a 4-2 victory in the first-leg that took place on Thursday. Barcelona were eliminated also in from the quarter-finals in 2004 by Zaragoza who later went on to defeat Real Madrid in the final and clinch the title. As for Real, they edged title holders Real Betis into the semis after winning them 2-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Espanyol will have to wait to know who they will face in the semis after Valencia's second-leg against Deportivo was abandoned before the halftime, after a linesman sustained an injury from a missile thrown from the crowd. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided that the remaining 46 minutes of the match will be played behind closed doors. The quarter-final ties are scheduled to be continued next Wednesday.
