Basel suffered a crucial Swiss league defeat to close rivals Grasshoppers with a goal in the dying moments. The league holders needed a win to clinch the title two weeks before the end, with six points separating them from Grasshoppers. But a 90th minute strike from French striker Anat Ngamukol gave hosts Grasshoppers a massive victory which reduced the gap to three points. Egypt duo Mohamed Al-Nenni and Mohamed Salah were surprisingly left out of the starting line-up, before coming on as second half subs. Salah replaced midfielder Philip Degen in the 63rd minute while Al-Nenni featured for 12 minutes in place of Marcelo Diaz. Basel are still favorites to clinch it with two games left against Young Boys and St. Gallen.
