TEL AVIV- Israeli soldiers shot and killed an armed infiltrator from Egypt on Wednesday, an Israeli security official said. The infiltrator was among a group who penetrated the desert border area, and military officials were checking if they were militants, the official added, as smugglers and migrants seeking jobs frequently try to enter Israel in the same area. "There was an armed squad who infiltrated Israel along the border with Egypt, one was shot by an Israeli force, the others dropped the bags they were carrying," whose contents were being examined, the official told Reuters. At least some of the infiltrators returned to Egyptian territory after the shooting, the official added. Israel coordinated its actions with Egypt, the official said . Egypt is one of two Arab countries with which Israel has a peace treaty, signed in 1979.
