REGARDLESS of the repercussions of last Saturday's court ruling in the 2012 Port Said Stadium massacre, it should be duly admitted that the incident was a diabolical crime plotted and committed by some person(s), who do not want to see Egypt get back on its feet again. This crime, which claimed 72 innocent lives, had one and only goal: getting revenge on the January 25 Revolution and the revolutionaries, regardless of their political affiliations, attitudes or beliefs, as well as the young members of what is known as Ultras Ahlawy (hardcore fans of Al-Ahly Football Club). This incident, popularly dubbed the ‘Mother of All Massacres', was natural by product of a violent struggle for power between opponents and proponents in the 18-day revolution as well as those forces that claimed to have played a role in it, although they in fact did not. Through a well-organised campaign of deception, these forces have, however, managed to persuade everyone that they are the true architects of the revolution and it is quite lamentable that the people should believe such nonsense. In the meantime, the remnants of the old regime, with well-laid plans supported by misguided private media, have also succeeded in persuading the Egyptians that the revolution is the root of all evil, to be blamed for the current deplorable conditions in the country. These two conflicting camps, which deserve the title of arch foes, have been embroiled in a cut-throat competition since 2011 to preserve their own interests and privileges at the expense of the nation. These camps, it is regrettable to say, have got what they were after, while the nation is footing the bill for their conflict, which is like a giant wave sweeping the nation's ship away into ever-deeper waters.
