There is no doubt that Egypt's victory in the October War was not only a great surprise but truly the stuff of legends. Centres of historical studies all over the world scrutinised the war, which was even more remarkable thanks to ingenious planning and bold execution. The fact that Egypt succeeded in winning the war was based on many factors, one of which was the use of world media. Egypt misled Israel via articles published for example by the Financial Times in December 1972. The newspaper's Cairo correspondent wrote that the Egyptian army was far from ready and had been badly affected by previous events. The Washington Post correspondent wrote on March 26, 1973, that Israeli warplanes had managed to penetrate Egyptian air defence systems. This was misinformation and boosted the Egyptian army. When Egypt was engaged in the final war preparations in September 1973, Israel misconstrued their significance and interpreted them as activities similar to the maneuvers in May of the same year. Egypt's war strategy was cunning and Israel went straight into the trap, which ensured Egypt's victory on October 6, 1973. [email protected] [email protected]
