Further conveying Cairo press reaction to the ‘fake' peace offer made by Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion in the course of his government policy statement to the Knesset on November 29, 1955, The Egyptian Gazette of December 1, 1955 again reproduced an Al-Gomhuria (a Cairo daily) editorial headlined: Ben Gurion is not fooling world opinion. The editorial said: “In the course of the statement he made yesterday in the Zionist Parliament, Ben Gurion referred to the attitude of the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom towards Egypt and Israel, and said that the arming of Egypt would menace Israel, as Egypt's main objective is to remove Israel. “Instead of talking about Egypt and her intentions, Ben Gurion ought to have dealt with Israel's intentions. Events of the last few years have revealed to the whole world the intentions of both Egypt and Israel. “The world has seen that since the birth of Israel, it has never ceased its acts of aggression against the Arabs; and none of the international organisations have succeeded in putting an end to Israel's aggression. “Israel has often violated the United Nations resolutions; she did not accept the borders laid down by the United Nations; the Israelis assassinated Count Bernadott, Chief of the United Nations Truce Supervisors; the Israelis arrested and imprisoned some of the UN Truce supervisors; she committed frequent acts of aggression against along the Arab borders; she occupied the demilitarised zone and even threatened to declare war on the Arab countries......... The Egyptian Gazette also reproduced Al-Akhbar (another Cairo daily) editorial which said: “Prime Minister Gamal Abdul Nasser's statement (commenting on the fake peace offer made by Ben Gurion) shows that the settlement of the Palestinian problem does not require mediation and that Egypt would not adopt a bilateral attitude towards the problem. A common policy has to be adopted by all the Arab countries. “The Premier's statement made Egypt's attitude in this respect clearer to international statesmen who are interested in the problem, and has given them a clue to the correct policy that should be adopted for settling the Palestinian problem and for serving the cause of peace and stability in the Middle East. “It has also foiled the vicious attempts of those whop want to cause disunity among the Arab people. The Prime Minister emphasised that Egypt insists that the rights of the Palestinian Arabs should be restored and that the United Nations ought to put into effect the solutions of 1947."
