CAIRO - Egypt are maintaining their lead in the medals table on the 13th day of the 2011 Arab Games that run from December 9-23 in Doha, Qatar. The Egyptian athletes now have 212 medals – 83 gold, 70 silver and 59 bronze. Tunisia are second with 117 medals, (44 gold, 38 silver and 35 bronze), while Qatar are in third place with 101 medals (32 gold, 32 silver and 37 bronze). Morocco are fourth with 103 medals (32 gold, 20 silver and 51 bronze) and Saudi Arabia in fifth place with 43 medals (15 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze). Algeria are in sixth place with 77 medals (13 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze) and Kuwait in seventh with 54 medals (10 gold, 16 silver and 28 bronze). Jordan are eighth with 43 medals (10 gold, 10 silver and 23 bronze) and Bahrain ninth with 36 medals (10 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze). Qatar is hosting the 12th edition of the games ahead of the 2022 Football World Cup, which will also be held in this Gulf state.
Wonderful wrestling Egypt's wrestler Hassan Ibrahim snatched the gold medal in the men's 60kg, as Qatari Abdel-Rahman Ibrahim secured silver. "I am very happy after winning the gold medal for Egypt. Really, it was a difficult match against a very good Qatari opponent," Ibrahim said after the final. Iraq wrestler Ahmed Gomaa grabbed the gold medal in the +60kg competition, as Egypt's Sayyed Abdel-Moneim Hamed came second, while Qatar's Omar Mohamed and Algeria's Tareq Aziz shared third place and bronze. In the men's 74kg individual competition, Tunisia's Zeiad Ekraam netted gold, while Egypt's Islam Mohamed settled for silver and Iraq's Ayman Mohssen and Jordan's Ramzi el-Merafi shared third place and bronze. In the men's 96kg individual competition, Jordan's Yehia Abu Tabeikh snatched gold, while Tunisia's Hussein el-Eiari hooked silver and Egypt's Moustafa Mahmoud and Iraqi Seif Ali Kassem shared third place and bronze.
Karate, taekwondo breakthrough Egypt's karate team for men snatched gold, while the UAE grabbed silver and the bronze medal went to the Moroccan team. The Egyptian karate team for women also snatched gold, while their Algerian counterparts came second. Egypt's taekwondo players have snatched five medals, three golds, one silver and one bronze in the 2011 Arab Games. In the women's -57kg individual competition, Egypt's Hedaia Wahba grabbed gold. In the women's 67kg individual competition, Jordan's Nancy Abu Badr ‘stole' the gold, while Egypt's Hend Moustafa snatched the silver, and Morocco's Hakima el-Meslhi and Sudan's Miriam Mahmoud shared bronze. In the women's 46kg competition, Egypt's Aya Ali got the gold medal, Jordan's Christina scooped silver and Tunisia's Fadia el-Farhani and Morocco's Naiema Nader shared the bronze medal. In the men's 58kg individual competition, Egypt's Tamer Baioumi grabbed gold, as Libya's Mohamed Telish won silver and Qatari Mohamed Daher and Yemeni Yasser Moterif shared third place and bronze. In the men's 80kg competition, Morocco's Essam el-Sharnoubi grabbed the gold medal, while Jordan's Nabil Hassan came second and Egypt's Mahmoud Said and Qatar's Mohamed Daher shared third place and the bronze.
Super swimmers The Egyptian national team for women grabbed the gold medal in the 4x200m competition, while the Algerians came second and Tunisians third. Egypt's Farida Othman snatched gold in the 100m butterfly, as Algeria's Foulla Bin Nasser sealed for silver and Lebanon's Katia Bashroush scooped bronze. In the 200m women's competition, Egypt's Hania Moro grabbed the gold medal, while Tunisia's Sarah al-Genif snatched silver and Jordan's Sarah Hiana bronze. In the 50m individual competition, Morocco's Sarah el-Bakri won gold, Egypt's Mai Moustafa cornered the silver and Tunisia's Sarah Lejeif bagged the bronze. In the men's 200m individual competition, Tunisiaís Osama el-Molloli snatched gold, while Kuwaiti's Youssef el-Sukkari picked up the silver and Egypt's Marwaan Hilal scooped the bronze.
