CAIRO - Around 56 per cent of Egyptians are satisfied with the current state of affairs in the country, according to an official poll. The survey, conducted by the Cabinet Information and Decision-Making Support Centre, found that around 9 per cent of Egyptians are not satisfied while 11 per cent believe that Egypt is moving in the right direction. Meanwhile, the poll, according to he official Middle East News Agency (MENA), said that 24 per cent of those surveyed, abstained from expressing an opinion. Egypt has been hit by a rise in violence and political unrest since the long-standing president Hosni Mubarak was swept aside in a popular uprising. “Around 87 per cent of Egyptians expressed (in the same survey) they will vote in the upcoming presidential elections compared to 18 per cent in the 2005,” Hani Mahmoud, the centre's director, told a press conference. Egyptians are scheduled to elect a new parliament in September.
