CAIRO - Egypt is confident that its candidate running for the 22-member Arab League's top spot will be selected to succeed Amr Moussa, a popular Egyptian diplomat who has decided to stand in the forthcoming presidential elections, an Egyptian diplomat said, as Arab foreign ministers are set to elect the new head of the organisation on Thursday. "In Thursday's voting, Moustafa el-Fiqi, the Egyptian hopeful, is expected to be elected as the new Secretary-General of the Arab League, despite competition from a Qatari diplomat," added Affifi Abdel-Wahab, Egypt's permanent envoy to the body.
