CAIRO – At least 13 people were killed, including four Egyptians, and some 50 hurt Thursday in an attack by Muammar Gaddafi's forces on the port area of Libya's third city Misrata, a rebel spokesman said. "At least 13 people died, including women and children and four Egyptians who had attempted to be evacuated from the port," the spokesman said on condition of anonymity. "We have faced since dawn a cowardly and criminal attack on the area of the port and the district of Kasr Ahmed near the port," he said, adding that pro-Gaddafi forces fired dozens of Grad missiles and tank shells. "The toll will obviously worsen. We are still searching for other victims under the debris of houses," the spokesman said. In Cairo, Libyan pro-and anti-Gaddafi protesters scuffled at each other outside the Arab League, where an international conference hosted by the 22-member body as they shouted slogans and raised banners. Some Egyptian activists, inculding Political science professor Amr Hamzawi and human rights activist gamila Ismail, called for Libyans in Egypt to protest against Gaddafi. "We ask for more military support to the NATO forces to help them topple Gaddafi," one protester said. During the cairo conference, UN chief Ban Ki-moon called for a "political" solution and immediate ceasefire to the conflict in Libya."We call for a political process so that the Libyan people can reach their aspirations," Ban, who co-chaired the meeting, told a news conference at the end of the gathering. "We reiterate our call for an immediate ceasefire," said the UN Secretary General. European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who also attended the conference, appealled to the Libyan leader to resign with immediate effect. "The European Union's position is very clear, Colonel Kadhafi should step down immediately," she said.
