CAIRO - Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation Ahmed Shafiq has attended the signing of a contract between Smart Company and the Cessna Aircraft Company. The contract stipulates that Smart Company is to be the technical service and maintenance agent for three types of Cessna aircraft in the Middle East region. The contract also includes that Cessna is to provide Smart Company with the necessary spare parts, discounts and skilful experts for training the Egyptian workers in the field. Smart has already prepared an area of 4000m2 in the Cairo International Airport for technical service and maintenance. Wael el-Maddawi, the CEO of Smart Company, said that the estimated value of this project is about $5 million, adding that there is currently no maintenance centre for the Cessna Company in the Middle East except in the Saudi city of Riyadh. Both companies have signed this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in preparation for the final contract, which is to be signed during the AVEX Air Show in November.
