By Salwa Samir Believing in the English idiom which says "A picture is worth a thousand words", the Embassy of Thailand celebrated late on Sunday the launch of a photobook and exhibition called "A Journey through Thailand: Land of Unforgettable Experiences". Photographed by Egyptian photojournalist Asmaa Gamal during her journey through Thailand, the collection was published as a photobook by the Embassy to serve as an invaluable source of information about Thailand. At the event, Thai Ambassador Chainarong Keratiyutwong highlighted the cultural and touristic relations between his country and Egypt. "Egypt is the first Arab country that Thailand has been diplomatically connected with since 1954. The Thai people have learned about Egypt, its culture and especially its ancient civilisation with great interest and appreciation. Likewise, the Egyptians have been keen to know more about Thailand, one of their popular travel destinations, which receives about 30,000 Egyptian tourists every year," he said. He added that the Embassy had published the photo book to present diverse facets of Thailand that reflect the Thai culture and way of life. "We hope this book will inspireEgyptian readers to get to know more about Thailand - the ‘Land of Smiles'," he told the gathering at a luxurious hotel in Cairo. The high-quality printed book contains colourful photos with captions in both English and Arabic, with information being given about each location. The 160-page book covers all aspects of life in Thailand. There are photos of markets, places of worship, Thai massage, Thai boxing, cooking, handicrafts, textiles, palaces, waterfalls, hot springs and spas. Other photos show that Thailand is a multicultural country. Sunday's event featured an exhibition displaying some of the book's photos. The ambassador spoke to the audience about each photo.
