By Salwa Samir For the fourth time this year, Thailand's Embassy in Cairo organised a cooking demonstration on Monday, to promote Thai cuisine among Egyptians, in co-operation with the Egyptian Chef Association. The first demonstration was held at a hotel in New Cairo, the second in Hurghada, the third in Sharm el-Sheikh and this last one at a hotel in Cairo. "Thai food is ranked by many as one of the best cuisines in the world. Proof of its popularity is that today there are about 15,000 Thai restaurants worldwide and Thai food often tops many polls and lists of the best international food," said Thai Ambassador Chainarong Keratiyutwong. "The Thai government continues to attach great importance to promoting Thai food worldwide by initiating various activities to promote Thailand as a"Kitchen of the World" as well as to give the ‘Thai Select' and the ‘Thai Select Premium' sign to authentic and high-standard Thai restaurants around the world," he added. In Monday's demonstration, the hotel's Egyptian chefs listened attentively to the instructions given by Thai chef Narong Butsrihoom, as he demonstrated how to prepare a number of dishes including Beef Salad with Lemongrass, Seafood Salad with Ginger and Chicken with Basil Leaves. "We hope that these four cooking events which have targeted different Egyptian audiences, will help bring people from Egypt and Thailand a step closer together," the Thai diplomat said.
