CAIRO, September 16, 2018 - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Sunday urged Cairo Governorate officials to speed up work on Asmarat-3 project in al-Moqattam, south-eastern Cairo. He was speaking during an inspection tour to al-Asmarat in al-Moqattam. He was accompanied by Cairo Governor Major General Khaled Abdel Aal, Deputy Minister of housing for urban development Essam el-Gazzar and the Director of the Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF), Khaled Sedik. During the tour, Madbouli said that the government was committed to speeding up the completion of this project and would not allow any delay. El-Gazzar said that the third phase of the project included the establishment of 7,304 housing units at a cost of LE580 million. This phase would also involve the provision of water, roads, electricity and a sewage system. The first phase of the project, he said, included the building of 6,258 housing units at a cost of LE850 million in addition to the establishment of a primary school, 140 shops, three kindergartens and two football fields. The second phase, el-Gazzar said, involved the establishment of 4,722 housing units at a cost of LE650 million as well as a primary school, an experimental language school, two kindergartens, 100 shops, an open-air theatre and a community service centre. Sedik said the government was also completing the second phase of "Together for Upgrading Informal Settlements" in the Cairo governorate' el-Salaam district. It is being carried out by the Ministry of Housing represented by the ISDF. This phase of the project included the establishment of about 3,312 housing units, the provision of service areas, places of worship and a handicrafts area.
