CAIRO, August 28, 2018 - Minister of Health and Population Dr Hala Zayed on Tuesday discussed with her Sudanese counterpart Bahar Idriss Abugarda, ways of increasing co-operation in the health sector. Minister Zayed talked about therapeutic tourism between the two countries and unifying Egyptian-Sudanese medical standards. Both ministers agreed to increase therapeutic grants as well as food safety requirements. In Sudan, the Egyptian Minster said, there was co-operation over therapeutic tourism, drug manufacturing and setting up an exhibition for pharmaceutical and medical supplies. She added that this teamwork was the result of decisions taken at the ministerial meetings of the Egyptian-Sudanese higher committee set up to support the health system. The Sudanese Health Minister said that I was important for the two countries to work on their joint files, for the benefit of their peoples. He praised the health co-operation between the two countries which included providing the same treatment to Sudanese and Egyptians alike, upgrading the Sudanese health personnel's skills, through training at Egyptian health institutions and exchanging health convoys. In a related development, Minister of Transport Hesham Arafat on Tuesday discussed with his Sudanese counterpart Ibrahim Youssef, ways of increasing co-operation in the transport sector. The two ministers discussed activating the rail link between the two countries and plans to connect the two National Railways. The Egyptian minister pointed out that development work on the National Railway Authority's Wardan Training Institute had been completed. The institute was ready to offer training courses to Sudanese engineers and technicians in railway engineering, signalling, marketing management, sales and communication programmes. The ministers discussed organising meetings of the joint technical committee for land transport, in accordance with the land transport protocol signed by the two countries. The joint committee will solve any problems impeding Egyptian-Sudanese co-operation in this field. They agreed to hold a meeting of the joint permanent technical committee for land and river transport, in the second week of September.
