RAMALLAH, West Bank, June 27, 2018 (News Wires) - Prince William has met Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday at his office in Ramallah in the first-ever visit by a British royal to the West Bank. William was tasked by Israel's President Reuven Rivlin on Tuesday with taking a "message of peace" to the Arab leader. In his comments to the prince, Abbas declared his commitment to peace negotiations based on a two-state solution, his standard position on the long-term resolution to the decades old conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. He said he hoped the next time William visits Palestine it would be a fully independent state. In keeping with the trip's focus on youth, the Duke of Cambridge is expected to meet young Palestinians at the nearby Jalazoun refugee camp and take part in Palestinian cultural events, including music and culinary activities. On Tuesday in Jerusalem, William met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Rivlin.
