Staff Report: CAIRO, June 5, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is scheduled to attend a special function that will be organised by al-Azhar Mosque and the Ministry of Waqfs (Religious Endowments) to celebrate the occasion of Laylat el-Qadr, a senior official said Tuesday. The Minister of Waqfs, Dr Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, said that President Sisi would deliver a speech about the current challenges facing the Muslim nation and how to overcome them. In his speech, President Sisi is expected to highlight the multiple roles played by Muslim scholars in fighting religious extremism, explaining Islam's relevance to modern life and presenting the true religion of Islam, which has been subjected to distortions, Dr Gomaa said. During the function, President Sisi will honour ten Egyptians and foreigners who won top prizes in the annual Qur'an reciting competition that was organised by the ministry earlier in the year, the minister said.
