CAIRO, MARCH 24, 2018 - The 25th edition of the International Quran Recitation Competition has started in Cairo on Saturday with the participation of over 66 reciters from 55 countries, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported. The six-day competition, organised by Ministry of Endowments under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, highlights Egypt's standing in the Islamic World and the attention it pays to those who memorise, recite and interpret Islam's Holy Book from all over the world by honouring them during an international celebration marking Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Empowerment) that is held in Ramadan each year. The prizes of the contest total LE1million. About 10 international arbitrators are participating in the competition, MENA added. On the sidelines of contest, a number of seminars would be held to discuss important issues in the Muslim World in addition to organising tours for the participants to visit the most important cultural, religious and historical landmarks in Cairo.
