Egypt, Jordan, Palestine warn of consequences of escalation in Palestinian territories
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 01 - 06 - 2018

CAIRO, June 1, 2018 (MENA) – Egypt, Jordan and Palestine warned of the recent escalation in the Palestinian territories that could comply with a political deadlock for a peaceful and just solution for the Palestinian issue, urging the international community to propose solutions to launch an influential effort in a bid to resolve the long-standing conflict.
This came in their final statement released late Thursday in Cairo at the end of a consultative meeting for the foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan as well as the secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The chiefs of intelligence services of Egypt, Jordan and Palestine also attended the meeting that discussed the latest development in Palestine.
In a joint press release, the officials of the three countries said the recent developments impose on the international community and the concerned entities to find solutions to solve the conflict according to the two-state solution, the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The statement also condemned the recent Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians which claimed the lives of scores of them.
The statement also asserted the right of the Palestinian people to live in safety and freedom and to exercise their right to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital and on the 1967's borders.
The statement also asserted the firm Arab stance which reject any change in the historical and legal status of the historical city of al Quds, pressing the need for implementing the recommendations of "Al Quds Summit" held in the Saudi city of Dhahran.
They also discussed Arab efforts exerted at the United Nations Security Council that aim at protecting Palestinians and support the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations.
The officials also noted the importance of reaching national reconciliation in order to unite Palestinians according to the agreement that was signed in October in Cairo.
The meeting also discussed means of developing and empowering the Palestinian institutions in Gaza Strip as well as enhancing economic situation and Palestinians' standard of living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed on intensifying consultations and coordination in the upcoming period in order to follow up the situation in the Palestinian territories.
