Staff report: CAIRO, May 22, 2018 - The Egyptian Ambassador in Tokyo, Ayman Kamel and the Head of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Hiroyuki Ishige, on Tuesday discussed ways of enhancing economic and trade relations between the two countries. The meeting followed a recent visit made by the JETRO chief to Cairo, during which he held meetings with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail. A statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said the Egyptian diplomat confirmed that Japanese companies had vast investment opportunities in the mega projects which were currently being implemented by the Egyptian government. The investment opportunities have been enhanced by the economic reforms that have recently been launched with the aim of improving the investment climate and providing the necessary guarantees and incentives for foreign companies, foremost among which is the recent removal of restrictions on the transfer of foreign currency. The meeting also dealt with the obstacles in the way of increasing Egypt's agricultural exports to Japan, especially citrus exports; and discussions covered the potentialfor boosting the export of textiles and construction materials. The two sides agreed on continued coordination with the Japanese business community to confirm the recent positive progress achieved in the Egyptian market and present the investment opportunities available in Egypt.
